How to pick a President (American style)

I posted this previously on what is now a defunct blog page on Nov 3, 2007. I want to post it now as a precursor to my next entry. To those of you that have read it I hope you don't mind. To those that haven't, thank you for doing so now.

How to pick a President (American style)

As we sit and ponder the upcoming Presidential Primary we look at each candidate and try to decide who do we need to vote for. We think about how we can't vote for the Demican because that would put them in power, or we can't vote for the Republicrat because we don't agree with their party's stance on anything, even though we may actually like that particular Republicrat. We strategize over every scenario about what if that one wins or that one and who will their VP be and so on and so forth. Then we wonder we end up with the elected officials we have. Well I have the answer. It's me and people like me. Yes, I, Wesley Ussery am guilty of wrongfully electing Government officials to office. Just before February of '08 becomes a memory I will be 49 and over the years I've been involved in many national elections, but I've never voted for anyone for President. Instead I've always voted against someone else. Always. I did cast a ballot or two in favor of Ronald Reagan, and both Bush's, but it was never because I thought they where the best man for the office, it was always because I didn't care for the consequences of the other lead candidate getting in office. This year I entered into the ring of political turmoil with a different vision and I believe that it will be far more satisfying to myself at least when the dust clears and the new President takes charge. See this year I decided to do what our founding Fathers did. Trust in God. Need I say that again? Ok I will. this year I will do what our founding Fathers did. Trust in God. This country claims to be 63 to 89 % Christian, depending on what poll you subscribe to. So why do we not act like Christians and trust God to do what's best for our nation? Bottom line is, no matter who you or I vote for, God will put whomever He chooses in the Oval Office to accomplish His desired outcome. Our only part in this is to make sure we vote for the man God would want in office according to Scripture first, and our Constitution second. Why you ask? simple.Proverbs 21: 3. To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. See when we use our human reasoning to decide who will be the best person to follow our desires, we sacrifice our service to, and trust in God to compromise. We need only to justly judge the candidates according to their obedience to Scripture and thereby come up with the Candidate most pleasing to God. That knocks the field down real fast doesn't it? I do believe that this nation started out on the right path by good godly men lead by God and with the best of intentions, but then ungodly men filtered in unawares and the rest as they say is history. In the past I never saw anyone that I believed was a God fearing , God ordained man to be President. I actually believe that such a man is in this race.We need a man of integrity, a man that has been faithful to his calling for a period of time and has proven himself to stand on godly principles. Many of the candidates claim to be Christian, but in all honesty how many actually portray God in their everyday walk of life? How many speak openly and frankly, unashamed of who they are and what God means to them? It's very popular today to say someone is of this faith or that faith, but The Bible tells us there is one faith. Who among the group exemplifies that faith? Who follows Scripture? Surely not those that interpret the phrase "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" as the liberty to end the life of another in the pursuit of their own happiness. Nor is it someone that wants to pervert the 1st or 2nd amendments. I want a man that is controlled by his relationship with God. A man that boldly, proudly and loudly stands unashamed as a Christian first and foremost and a public servant second. Now don't misunderstand me. I'm not looking for a man that talks constantly about his Christianity. No, not at all. I want a man that says all of this by his way of life, his common daily walk on a continual basis, with a long track record of this style of behavior not just as a recent change of heart or attitude that may be, and probably is more of convenience, not of conviction. If anyone is interested I will go deeper into my thoughts on this.
